A new exhibition, ‘Against the Odds’, tells the story of the formation and operation of RAF Bomber Command during the Second World War and graphically describes the personal courage and sacrifice of its air and ground crews and the effects on its targets.
The exhibition, which was originally displayed at the Imperial War Museum Manchester, has been adapted and further developed by the Yorkshire Air Museum.
A new ‘Astra’ cinema, decorated in the style found on RAF Stations in wartime, frequently features period films, including rare film of the two French Squadrons based at RAF Elvington.
Also in the building is a room commemorating the history of 77 Squadron which flew Halifax bombers from the former RAF Elvington during the war. Another room is dedicated to the important role of the RAF Regiment.
